The
Role of the Co-ordinator for Tobacco Control
The Northern TCG has a Co-ordinator for Tobacco Control, Pat Purvis,
to support the development of high quality smoking cessation services
in the Northern Board area.
Some of Pat's work as Co-ordinator for Tobacco Control includes:
- Developing a consistent, sustainable smoking cessation service
in the Northern Board area;
- Establishing and recording the current provision of smoking
cessation services and support in order to identify gaps;
- Promoting smoking cessation and preventative services to disadvantaged
adults, pregnant smokers and children and young people;
- Establishing and facilitating a network of key agencies, organisations
and professions in order to promote the development of a co-ordinated
approach to smoking cessation and prevention;
- Ensuring that appropriate smoking cessation training programmes
are accessible to people within the Northern Board area;
- Representing the Northern TCG on the DHSSPS Cessation Group
and the Strategic Implementation Group; and
- Ensuring effective communications and co-ordination on tobacco
related issues across regional and local structures.
